FAQ: I used Seachem Reef Glue™, but the coral/rock fell apart! What went wrong?

There are a few things that could cause the bond of the glue to fail.

  1. Far too much glue was used.  Reef Glue™ is strong, but large amounts can become brittle.  This glue works best if a thin layer is used.
  2. Far too little glue was used.  Reef Glue™ is strong, but if too little glue is used, it will not be enough to hold together large pieces of coral.
  3. Something formed a protective film over the surface and Reef Glue™ was unable to bond.  This can happen with soft corals and even some hard corals.  If they produce large amounts of slime, it can be difficult to get Reef Glue™ to bond to the surface.
  4. The coral/rock was too heavy.  Reef Glue™ is very strong, but may not be strong enough to hold together large pieces of rock or heavy coral.  For this application, we recommend CoralCrete™.
