FAQ: Can I use Seachem MatrixCarbon™ in a tank where I'm keeping ______?

MatrixCarbon™ is an extremely broad-range filtration media capable of removing a variety of contaminants, so while it is suitable to use in every type of aquarium and aquarium inhabitant it applied as recommended, if you are practicing extreme control over nutrient concentrations (such as a laboratory testing environment), it is best to exclude broad-spectrum chemical filtration media and opt for more targeted filtration media.

Be aware that some types of aquarium logs and decorations leach tannins into the water that stain the water brown.  Tannins are an organic molecule, and therefore MatrixCarbon™ will be capable of removing them from the water.  If this is an effect that you want in your aquarium, you will need to exclude MatrixCarbon™ and other waste-absorbing medias like Purigen®.
