FAQ: Can I use Seachem CupriSorb™ together with ________?

Another Company's product

There are a lot of aquarium products on the market, and while most of them will work perfectly fine together in the aquarium, some will not.  We can't 100% guarantee any product that's not our own, but here's a few quick rules:

  1. Avoid using products that overlap in function.  Either one works and so it's the one you should be using, both work and so it's a waste to use them both, or neither work and you should be looking for a third, better product. In the case of copper and metal-absorbing media, overuse of this type of media can result in depletion of essential trace metals over time.
  2. Research the products you use carefully.  It is not recommended to use CupriSorb™ alongside any type of medication, particularly copper-based medications, as the filter media is capable of removing medications from the water.
  3. When in doubt, remove and store.  Unless you are dealing with a severe ongoing issue with metal contamination, it should be fine to remove the CupriSorb™.  CupriSorb™ can be stored with a little water in a sealed container.  If you are concerned that CupriSorb™ may remove another product that you have added, feel free to remove the CupriSorb™ and store it until it is needed again.
  4. Filter medias generally do not interact.  It is rare to find filter medias that direct interact with each other. Know what your filter medias are intended to do, and choose filter medias that accomplish your goals in the aquarium.

Seachem® Products

It is safe to use CupriSorb™ alongside most Seachem® product except for medications, which should not be used with any type of chemical filtration media unless the medication is confined to a medicated food blend.  There are also components of several Seachem® products which CupriSorb™ is capable of absorbing under laboratory conditions, but which it typically is incapable of impacting under ordinary aquarium conditions.

CupriSorb™ Compatibility Charts

Green: There is no interaction between this product and CupriSorb™

Blue: While CupriSorb™ may be able to absorb components of this product under laboratory conditions, there is typically no impact on the product or the CupriSorb™ under aquarium conditions.  It is considered perfectly fine to use these products together.

Red: CupriSorb™ will directly absorb components of this product, and they should not be used together.

Black: There are no circumstances under which it would be recommended to use these products together in the same tank, so even though they do not interact, it is not recommended to use them together.

Medications

Do not use CupriSorb™ in a tank that is currently being dosed with medication - it has the potential to remove the medication.

However, it is perfectly fine to use a CupriSorb™ in a tank being treated with a medicated food blend.  We recommend:

MetroPlex™ Food Blend for internal and external parasites like ich, velvet, and hexamita

KanaPlex™ Food Blend for internal and external bacterial and fungal infections

NeoPlex™ Food Blend for bacterial infections of the intestines

SulfaPlex™ Food Blend for external bacterial infections

*Cupramine™ Focus™ KanaPlex™ MetroPlex™
NeoPlex™ ParaGuard™ PolyGuard™ SulfaPlex™

*CupriSorb™ is often used to remove Cupramine™ after treatment is completed.
