Yes! CupriSorb™ does not release anything into the water, so it is compatible with all aquarium species. It can be used in reef tanks or shrimp tanks suspected to be in danger of building up toxic levels of heavy metals.
A note about copper and heavy metals:
Copper has a bad reputation for building up in aquariums to the point of harming delicate invertebrates like shrimp and snails. This reputation comes from the widespread use of copper-based medications as well as the occasional use of copper plumbing in older houses. Upon hearing that copper and other metals can build up to the point of harming invertebrates, many hobbyists panic and begin to take drastic action in an effort to protect their animals from this perceived threat. This often leads to overuse of CupriSorb™, carbon, and other metal-absorbing filter media and underuse of trace element or nutrient supplements. However, while it is true that high levels of metals like copper can be extremely stressful or even deadly to invertebrates, these same metals are absolutely essential to invertebrate and plant health in low concentrations. Care must be taken in tanks that contain invertebrates to neither allow metals and trace elements to build up to toxic levels nor allow essential metals and trace elements to become completely depleted.
