FAQ: Can I use Seachem Reef Calcium™ in a tank where I'm keeping ______?

Possibly.  Reef Calcium™ is exclusively intended for saltwater tanks and not every type of aquarium fish is suited this type of environment or to the calcium levels which Reef Calcium™ can be used to create. Research your fish to know what environment they would prefer.  Additionally, many fish, corals, and invertebrates are stressed by sudden high-percentage water changes and shifts in water parameters.  We recommend to alter calcium levels slowly and keep water changes to 30% of the tank or less. More sensitive tank inhabitants will do better with smaller, more frequent water changes and slower alterations of water parameters.

Reef Calcium™ is an excellent supplement for corals and invertebrates alike, but is generally not suited to frequent use in FOWLR tanks.  The form of calcium in Reef Calcium™ is intended to be taken up and utilized by corals and invertebrates, and lacking these tank inhabitants, the calcium may be taken up and used by bacteria colonies, leading to a slight bacteria bloom in the water column.
