FAQ: Can I use Seachem Focus™ together with _______?

Another Company's product

We are not aware of any toxic interactions with other current major medications or products on the market, but we very strongly recommend against using medications together if it can be avoided, as this is likely to stress the fish.  We also can't 100% guarantee any product that's not our own, but here's a few quick rules for using a  medicated food blend if you usually use a different brand for aquarium maintenance:

  1. Avoid using products that overlap in function.  Typically it is only necessary to use one medicated food blend at a time.  Choose the medicated food blend that best matches the symptoms you are seeing - using multiple medicated food blends typically just stresses the fish to no additional benefit.
    • KanaPlex™ food blends treat internal and external bacterial infections
    • MetroPlex™ food blends treat internal and external parasitic infections
    • SulfaPlex™ food blends treat external bacterial infections
    • NeoPlex™ food blends treat bacterial infections fo the intestines
  2. When in doubt, wait 24 hours. Medicated food blends pass through the digestive system of the fish within a day.  If you need to change to a new medicated food blend and are concerned about product interactions, waiting a day should ensure that there is no more medication in the fish's system.
  3. Know what you are using.  Trade names of products or medications do not always clearly indicate their active ingredients.  Ensure you are not doubling up on medication by reading the ingredient list of your other product.

Seachem® Products

Focus2 does not directly react with any of the other Seachem® products, and in fact it is intended to be used with KanaPlex™, MetroPlex™, NeoPlex™, or SulfaPlex™. However, it is not recommended to use multiple medications or treatments at once if it is not absolutely necessary to treat multiple infections. For more information about combining medications, check out FAQ: Can I use Seachem® medications together?

Here's some Seachem® medications that cannot be used in a medicated food blend

ParaGuard™ Cupramine™ PolyGuard™

It is possible to use these medications in the water while using Focus™ and another medication in the fish's food, but it is never recommended to use multiple medications unnecessarily.
