Another Company's product
There are a lot of aquarium products on the market, and while most of them will work perfectly fine together in the aquarium, some will not. We can't 100% guarantee any product that's not our own, but here's a few quick rules:
- Avoid using products that overlap in function. Either one works and so it's the one you should be using, both work and so it's a waste to use them both, or neither work and you should be looking for a third, better product. In the case of Flourish Excel™, we cannot speak for the formulation of carbon supplements made by other companies, and so will not be able to speculate as to how the use of multiple carbon supplements will impact the chemistry of the system.
- Research the products you use carefully. Flourish Excel™ falls into the category of chemicals known as "reducing agents". If the other product cannot be used with reducing agents like water conditioners, stress reducers, or some kinds of medications, it cannot be used with Flourish Excel™.
- When in doubt, wait a day. While there is typically no interaction between Flourish Excel™ other products intended for use in planted tanks, leaving 24 hours in between the doses will avoid possible fish stress from rapidly changing water parameters.
Seachem® Products
It's safe to use Flourish Excel™ alongside any of the other Seachem® products that are recommended for freshwater planted systems. Keep in mind that not every product that is recommended for freshwater is also recommended for a planted tank - while Flourish Excel™ will not directly interact with any of the following products except for Cupramine™, you will obtain the best results in your planted tank by using products intended for plants.
Here's some Seachem® freshwater products that are Not recommended for planted tanks
Neutral Regulator® | Alkaline Regulator™ | Arowana Buffer™ |
Acid Regulator™ | Discus Buffer® | Betta Basics™ |
Replenish™ | Medications (in water) | Cupramine™ |
As previously mentioned, it is perfectly fine to use these products alongside each other, but the products listed here are specifically intended for freshwater tanks without plants.
