FAQ: Is it possible to overdose Seachem Discus Buffer®?

It certainly is. An overdose of Discus Buffer® can result in a sudden and stressful shift in pH, and can cause significant phosphate precipitation.  If pH of the water is still too high despite repeated additions of a buffer like Discus Buffer®, it is likely that there is a high concentration of buffers in the aquarium holding the pH steady.  We recommend to either dilute the source water with RO/DI water (which is free of buffers) or use a stronger acid source like Acid Buffer to overcome the buffers in the aquarium before using Discus Buffer® to hold the pH steady.
